That was one important victory, as the moment of brilliance from Berbatov was literally the difference in a tight game, and that puts Fulham in a confident spell of form.
While the first-half was encouraging, with the nice flow of football being rewarded for the goal before half-time, it meant the theme of nerves at Craven Cottage was taken to another level when Fulham had to hold onto the 1-0 lead. Every player deserves praise for fighting for those three points.
Karagounis, in particular, was a very important character in midfield. His demand to continuously receive the ball and his precise range of pass is exactly what Fulham have been crying out for. We really do need an understudy and younger version of Karagounis next season; there¹s plenty to learn from him.
Despite giving away the penalty, I felt another bright display worth mentioning was from Dejagah who featured on both flanks today, as his combination with Riether was quick and effective that led to the only goal of the match. Dejagah is one of the few attacking players who can quickly sprint into space which is good for the team.
The defence, and especially Mark Schwarzer, will be celebrating a well-earned clean sheet. The veteran goalkeeper was confidently prepared to save the penalty and he deserves as much credit as Berbatov for his difference in the game.
Out of that back five, only Riise is not out of contract for this summer, and Martin Jol is in an interesting situation. For instance, Senderos has started the last four games, which seems to be Jol¹s message and tactic to force a convincing string of performances in order for Senderos to gain a contract extension.
To save the best for last, Berbatov¹s spectacular volley will be the highlight of the game, it delivered the three points. He may be anonymous on a few occasions but his ability is the reason why he must be on the pitch at all times.
Fulham have previously gone on a strong run towards the remainder of the season. Hopefully that will be the case again. Emanuelson and Enoh, who are yet to start a game, should make a very good impact and every play should be competing for a place. Fulham are gradually climbing up the table and we must ensure victories in matches like today.
