About Us: Who Writes This Guide and Why

An independent Irish guide to bookmakers, racing, the National Lottery and online gaming. We check the licence first, read the small print second and leave the betting to you.

About

Pick Our Team is an independent guide to betting, racing, the National Lottery and online gaming for readers in Ireland. We set out who holds a licence, what the terms actually say and where the catches sit, then leave the decision with you.

What we cover

  • Bookmakers and betting exchanges serving Ireland, each checked against the register kept by the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI).
  • Horse racing and sport: how the big festivals are run, how to read a racecard, how each-way terms are worked out. Daily cards and results arrive through a feed; we do not make up runners, prices or fancies.
  • National Lottery games: rules, draw days and how long you have to claim a prize. Results come from the official feed, never retyped by hand.
  • Online casinos, slots and bingo, with a plain statement that Ireland has no gaming licence yet.

Why the licence comes first on every page

Since 1 July 2026 an online bookmaker taking bets from people in Ireland has needed a remote betting licence from the GRAI. Before that date the licence came from Revenue, which no longer issues it. That register entry is the first thing we look for on any brand and the first fact in every review. Our guide to who is licensed sets out the full picture.

Gaming is a different matter. The GRAI expects to begin licensing casino, slots and bingo in early 2027, so for now a casino brand is judged on the foreign licence it holds, usually from Malta or Great Britain, and we say which. Brands with nothing better than a Curacao, Anjouan or Kahnawake licence, or none at all, are marked swerve and get no link from us.

How a page is put together

Each page starts from the regulator's records and the operator's own terms, help pages and app store listings, and a second editor checks it before publication. Reviews are not based on accounts of our own. The full routine and the list of sources are on the editorial team page; the form figures and verdicts are explained under how we rate operators.

How the guide pays its way

Some links to bookmakers and casinos are affiliate links. If you join through one, the operator may pay us. That money does not buy a verdict, a ranking place or a kinder line about the terms, and offshore brands get no link whatever they might pay. The arrangement is spelled out in our affiliate disclosure.

What we are not

We are not a bookmaker, a casino or the National Lottery. We take no bets, hold no money and sell no tickets. An account problem belongs with the operator and, after that, its regulator.

Adults only

The guide is written for people aged 18 and over, the legal age for any gambling in Ireland. Treat a stake as the price of an afternoon's interest, not a way to cover a bill. If that line has blurred, the safer gambling page lists free, confidential help.

Corrections and questions about our own pages reach the editors through the contact page.

Readers' questions

Is this a bookmaker or a betting site?
No. It is an information guide. You cannot place a bet, buy a Lotto ticket or deposit money here; links to operators take you to their own sites.
Why are casinos on the guide not licensed in Ireland?
Because no Irish gaming licence exists yet. The GRAI expects to start gaming licensing in early 2027; until then each casino page names the foreign licence the brand holds.
How current is a page?
Each page shows the date it was last checked. When a licence, rule or draw format changes, the page is rechecked and that date moves on.
