Lotto results and the new draw calendar

The Lotto is now drawn three nights a week: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. The Monday draw is the newcomer, first held on 7 September 2026, two days after the smaller 1 to 45 matrix took effect at the Saturday draw of 5 September. The balls drop at 7.55pm, shown live on the official National Lottery website and broadcast on RTE One before the Nine O'Clock News. Terminals stop selling for that night's draw at 7.45pm.

EuroMillions keeps its Tuesday and Friday slots, and the Daily Million runs twice a day, every day of the week. Put together, there is a National Lottery draw of some sort on every day of the year.

Game Draws Price per line Top prize
Lotto Mon, Wed, Sat at 7.55pm EUR 2 (minimum two lines) Jackpot, capped at EUR 16 million
Lotto Plus 1 and Plus 2 Lotto nights, same numbers EUR 1 add-on EUR 1 million in each
EuroMillions Tuesday and Friday EUR 2.50 Jackpot, varies by draw
EuroMillions Plus Tuesday and Friday EUR 1 add-on EUR 500,000 fixed
Daily Million Every day, 2pm and 9pm EUR 1 EUR 1 million fixed
Daily Million Plus Same draws EUR 0.50 add-on EUR 500,000

The Daily Million prices come from secondary sources rather than the operator's own pages, so check them at the counter or on the official site before you rely on them.

What the September 2026 changes did to the Irish Lotto

  • Two balls fewer. Players now pick six numbers from 1 to 45, down from 1 to 47.
  • Better jackpot odds. Six from 45 gives 8,145,060 possible combinations, roughly 1 in 8.1 million per line, against about 1 in 10.7 million under the old matrix.
  • A third draw. Monday joined Wednesday and Saturday.
  • A lower cap. The jackpot now stops growing at EUR 16 million, down from EUR 19.06 million. After the fifth draw at the cap, a must-be-won roll-down applies.
  • Bigger Plus 2. The Lotto Plus 2 top prize went from EUR 250,000 to EUR 1 million, level with Plus 1.
  • No raffle. The Lotto Raffle was dropped.

The price did not move: EUR 2 a line, two lines minimum, so the cheapest Lotto entry is still EUR 4. Old guides that talk about 47 balls or a Lotto raffle are out of date, and so are any odds quoted from them.

Reading the results wire

The wire above shows each game's latest draw. The single-game pages carry their own feed, filtered to that game, with the rules that go with it. We do not print jackpot estimates, winner stories or number "trends" of our own; if the wire is slow to refresh after a draw, the official National Lottery result is the record, and any dispute over a ticket is settled against that, not against a third-party page, ours included.

Two habits save a lot of confusion. First, match the draw date printed on the ticket to the date on the result, because a ticket bought on Sunday is for Monday's Lotto, not Saturday's. Second, check every game the ticket covers: a Lotto line with Plus ticked is three separate chances, and EuroMillions with Plus is two.

Who runs the National Lottery, and who watches it

Premier Lotteries Ireland DAC operates the game under a 20-year licence awarded in February 2014; it took over from An Post, which ran the lottery from 1987, in November 2014. Since November 2023 the company has been owned by La Francaise des Jeux, the French lottery operator. Oversight sits with the Regulator of the National Lottery, an independent statutory office under the National Lottery Act 2013.

That is a separate regime from the one covering bookmakers. The Gambling Regulation Act 2024 leaves the National Lottery outside its definition of a lottery, so the new Gambling Regulatory Authority has no role here; our licensing explainer covers what the GRAI does regulate. According to the regulator, the lottery has raised more than EUR 7 billion for good causes since 1987.

Claiming: mind the 90-day clock

National Lottery prizes expire 90 days after the date of the draw. Scratch cards run on a different clock, counted from the last day the card could be sold, and that deadline is printed on the back. A prize can be claimed at a National Lottery retail agent, a post office prize claim centre or National Lottery headquarters; which route applies depends on the size of the win, and the official claiming instructions set out the thresholds.

No tax is payable on lottery winnings in Ireland. Our gambling tax guide explains why, and why the same is true of a winning bet.

The game pages

Each game has its own page with a filtered feed and the rules that go with it: EuroMillions with its Irish Plus add-on and raffles, Lotto Plus and its two extra draws, the twice-daily Daily Million, a step-by-step guide to playing and checking a ticket, and National Lottery scratch cards with their printed deadlines.

Long odds, small stakes

Every game here is for adults: you must be 18+ to play, and selling a ticket to anyone younger is illegal. A Lotto line at roughly 1 in 8.1 million for the jackpot is entertainment priced at EUR 2, not a plan. If the spend is creeping up or the draws have started to matter more than they should, our safer gambling page lists free Irish support.
