Real Money Online Casinos: How Playing for Cash Works in Ireland
Playing for real money means a verified account, a cashier that pays out and a licence that someone enforces. In Ireland that licence is still foreign, and the details of each step decide how smoothly your money moves.

An online casino for real money takes a deposit from your bank card or e-wallet, lets you stake it on slots and table games, and pays winnings back to you after checking who you are. For Irish players, every such casino operates under a foreign licence, from Malta, Great Britain or Gibraltar, because the GRAI has licensed online betting since July 2026 but will not license casino gaming until early 2027.
The six brands below are the ones we would consider for real money play today. Four come from companies that already hold a GRAI licence for betting, which does not cover the casino but does put the group under an Irish regulator.

Who runs each online casino for real money
| Brand | Operator | Irish betting licence in the group |
|---|---|---|

| Quinn Casino | QuinnBet (Gibraltar) Limited | GRAI remote betting |
| Karamba Casino | Aspire Global International Ltd | None on the GRAI register; held a legacy Revenue licence |
| Lucky Pants Bingo | Rank Interactive (Gibraltar) Ltd | None; casino under Gibraltar licences |
| Kwiff Casino | Kwiff Limited | GRAI remote betting |
| Midnite Casino | Midnite Europe Limited | GRAI remote betting |
Each GRAI licence in that table is a remote betting licence. It covers the sportsbook, never the casino. The casino tab of each brand runs under the group's foreign gaming licence, and that is the regulator to approach if a casino dispute cannot be settled with the operator.
From deposit to withdrawal, step by step
- Register. Name, address, date of birth. The casino checks these electronically against databases.
- Verify. If the electronic check fails, the casino asks for photo ID and proof of address. Doing it at the start avoids a delay at the first withdrawal.
- Set limits. Daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits sit in the account menu. Lowering a limit usually takes effect at once; raising one usually comes with a cooling-off delay.
- Deposit. Debit card, e-wallet, Apple Pay or bank transfer, depending on the brand. Credit cards are out: the Gambling Regulation Act 2024 bans credit for gambling with GRAI licensees.
- Play. Slots, table games, live dealer games. Your balance is real money unless a bonus is active, in which case the terms decide which part is withdrawable.
- Withdraw. Usually to the method you deposited with. Speed depends on the casino's pending period and the method; our fast withdrawal casinos page compares them.
Online slots for real money
Slots make up most of any real money casino's library and most of its revenue. Each slot has a return to player set by its provider, typically somewhere in the 90s as a percentage; the rest is the house edge. Higher-volatility slots pay less often but bigger; lower-volatility ones pay small amounts more often. Neither changes the long-run maths. The slots section covers individual games with their published figures, and a real cash slot plays like its free demo version, apart from the money.
Real money against free play
Free play and social casino apps use virtual coins that cannot be cashed out. They are useful for learning how a slot's features work, but nothing won there can ever reach your bank account. The moment a site lets you withdraw winnings, it is a real money casino and needs a licence. Free spins offered by a real money casino are a different thing again: real stakes paid for by the casino, with terms attached.
What protects a real money balance
Three things, in order. The regulator named in the footer, which sets rules on fair games, identity checks and complaints. The company, whose record and size decide whether it is still there next year. And the terms, which say when the casino may void winnings, close accounts or apply dormancy fees. Irish law adds a fourth layer for GRAI licensees: fines of up to EUR 20 million or 10% of turnover for breaches. That layer covers the betting side of the groups above today and will reach the casino side once gaming licences are issued.
Offshore casinos, licensed in Curacao or Anjouan, offer little of any of the four. They are left off our rankings; where they appear in our reviews they are marked swerve. Our licensing page shows how to check a brand on the GRAI register.
Tax on casino winnings
Players in Ireland do not pay tax on betting or National Lottery winnings; the 2% betting duty is paid by the bookmaker. For casino winnings the question is covered in our gambling tax guide, which sets out what is confirmed and what is not.
Readers' questions
- Can I play online casino games for real money in Ireland?
- Yes, at casinos that accept Irish players under foreign licences. No online casino is licensed in Ireland yet; GRAI gaming licensing is expected in early 2027.
- Which payment methods work at real money casinos?
- Debit cards, e-wallets such as PayPal and Skrill, Apple Pay and bank transfers, depending on the brand. Credit for gambling is banned for GRAI licensees.
- Why do I have to send ID to a real money casino?
- Identity and age checks are a licence condition. They stop under-18s from playing and money laundering, and a casino that skips them is not one to trust with a balance.
- Are real money slots the same as free slots?
- The game is the same; the stakes are not. Free versions use virtual coins with no cash value, while real money play is gambling with your own funds.
