Bar One Racing Review: Dundalk's Independent Bookmaker

A Dundalk independent with a GRAI betting licence and a racing-first book. Its website publishes little that can be checked, so this review separates what is confirmed from what is not.

Bar One Racing: review

Bar One Racing is an independent bookmaker from Dundalk, licensed in Ireland for betting: the GRAI register lists Bar-One Racing Limited as a remote betting licensee from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2029. It is a racing-first firm, now trading online as BAR 1 Betting, and a fair each-way choice for a punter who mostly backs horses.

This review is shorter on product detail than ours on the multinationals, and for a plain reason. The Bar One website loads its content by script, and our research could not read its offers, payment list, apps or safer-gambling tools. Where a fact is missing, we say so rather than fill the gap.

Who owns Bar One Racing

The business is Bar-One Racing Ltd, registered at Hagan House, Ramparts, Dundalk, Co. Louth: an Irish independent rather than part of a listed group. A Dundalk FC sponsorship page says the online site launched in 2018. That is the date of the website, not the company, and we did not find a confirmed founding year. Searches for the Bar One Racing owner lead to the same limited company; our sources do not name individuals behind it, so neither do we.

The name turns up as Bar One, Bar-One and BAR 1; bookies, bookmakers or betting shops, it is the same firm.

The Bar One Racing licence in Ireland

The register entry reads: GRAI remote betting licence GRAI-0498-RB-26-0001 (Bar-One Racing Limited), valid 2026-07-01 to 2029-06-30. Before July 2026 the company held a Revenue remote bookmaker's licence, which Revenue has stopped issuing now that the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland licenses betting. The GRAI site refused our automated reading, so the licence number comes from a copy of the register, and searches of grai.ie show the company on it. Our licensing explainer covers how the register works.

Two limits apply. The licence is for betting only; we found no confirmed Bar One casino, and none could be licensed in Ireland before gaming licences begin, expected in early 2027. And a remote licence covers internet and telephone betting, not shop counters.

Bar One shops and the December changeover

Searches for Bar One Racing shops are steady, but our research did not confirm how many shops the firm runs or where they are, so we list none. One date matters to every Irish betting shop: Revenue licences for in-person betting expire on 30 November 2026, and GRAI in-person betting licences start on 1 December 2026. A shop operator needs that separate licence; the online one does not carry over to the counter.

The same goes for a Bar One Racing number for phone bets. Telephone betting falls under the remote licence, but we have not confirmed a number and do not print one; the operator's site is the place to find it.

Bar One horse racing and best odds

The firm's name says where its interest lies. Best odds on UK and Irish racing are evidenced by a complaint decided by the Advertising Standards Authority and by the titles of races it has sponsored, rather than by a terms page we could read. In principle, BOG settles a winning bet at the starting price when that beats the price you took. Which races count and from what time are the operator's call, so confirm on the bet slip. Our BOG comparison lists the licensed firms that offer it.

Each-way betting is the bread and butter of a racing book. A worked example under standard terms: EUR 5 each-way, EUR 10 in total, at 6/1 in a 12-runner handicap, paying 1/4 the odds for three places. If the horse wins, the win half returns EUR 35 and the place half, at 6/4, returns EUR 12.50, so EUR 47.50 in all. If it finishes third, the win half is lost and EUR 12.50 comes back. Place terms vary by bookie and race; our each-way guide has the full table.

Bar One Racing and Galway

Bar One Racing Galway is a seasonal search, which fits the firm. The summer festival at Ballybrit is built around big handicaps: the Galway Plate, a chase of about two miles six and a half furlongs run on the Wednesday, and the Galway Hurdle over about two miles. Large fields are exactly where each-way terms and any extra places offered make a real difference, and those are set race by race. Bar One Racing odds for the week are not something we print; our Galway Races page explains the meeting and how to read the cards.

Football coupon and the sports book

The firm takes bets on sport as well as racing. The Bar One Racing football coupon is a shop tradition; whether a printable coupon is offered online was not confirmed. We could not count markets on football, GAA or golf, so we do not grade the sports book beyond its form line.

Signing up: the offer, the app and payments

A Bar One Racing sign up offer, if one is live, shows here: . We could not confirm one. The same applies to the Bar One Racing app: store links appear below if the operator data carries them, iPhone and Android , and we found none confirmed. Payment methods and the minimum deposit were not confirmed either; the minimum, where known, is . One rule binds Bar One as it does every licensee: no credit cards for gambling since February 2026.

Registration means identity and age checks, which Irish licensees must carry out under regulations made in July 2026. No one under 18 can hold an account.

Safer gambling at a small bookie

Its form line is weakest on tools, payments and terms clarity, and the reason is the missing information, not proof of poor practice. Every GRAI licensee must still let customers set money limits on remote gambling under section 164 of the 2024 Act. A nationwide self-exclusion register is coming but was not in operation in October 2026. Our help and support page lists Irish services.

Verdict on Bar One Racing: each-way

The licence is in order and the racing focus is genuine, which earns Bar One Racing an each-way verdict. What holds it back is how little the firm publishes in a form anyone outside can check: offers, payments, apps and tools all went unconfirmed. Use it as a second account for racing, read its terms before the first bet, and keep it to adults, 18+.
