Casino Payment Methods for Irish Players: What Pays In, What Pays Out

Cards, mobile wallets, e-wallets, bank payments and vouchers all reach a casino cashier, but they behave very differently on the way back out. The withdrawal, not the deposit, should decide the method.

Payments

Casino payment methods open to Irish players come in five families: debit cards, mobile wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, e-wallets such as PayPal, Skrill and Neteller, bank payments such as Trustly, and prepaid vouchers such as paysafecard. Which ones a site offers is the operator's choice; the one payment rule the Gambling Regulation Act 2024 already enforces is a ban on credit cards and other credit for gambling with licensed operators.

The useful question is rarely how to get money in. Every cashier makes that easy. The question is how it comes back out, how long that takes and what the method lets you control. This hub sorts the methods on those terms and points to a separate guide for each.

Casino payment methods at a glance

The table lists what each method is, whether it normally carries a withdrawal, and which brands in our operator files name it in their own payment lists. A blank in our files is not proof that a method is missing; it means we could not read it on the operator's pages.

A bookmaker's cashier is not a casino licence

Many of the names in that table are bookmakers that hold a GRAI remote betting licence. Their payment lists apply to the account as a whole, and the same wallet usually funds the sportsbook and the casino tab. The licence does not stretch that far. Gaming has no Irish licence yet, the GRAI expects to start licensing it in early 2027, and the casino side of each of those firms runs under a Maltese, British, Gibraltar or other foreign licence.

Casino-only brands such as Lucky Pants Bingo or MegaRush hold no Irish licence of any kind. Lucky Pants Bingo runs under the Gibraltar Gambling Commission and MegaRush under the Malta Gaming Authority. If a payment goes missing there, the complaint goes to that regulator, not to Dublin. Our licensing explainer sets out who answers to whom.

Credit cards are out, by statute

Section 165 of the 2024 Act bans credit cards and other credit facilities for gambling. It was commenced with the licensing order and has applied since 5 February 2026. A GRAI licensee cannot take a bet funded on credit, and that includes a credit card saved inside Apple Pay or Google Pay; the wallet does not change what the card is.

The Act binds Irish licensees. A foreign casino is not licensed under it, but some refuse credit cards in their own terms anyway: Lucky Pants Bingo says so plainly. Treat any cashier that cheerfully takes a credit card from an Irish address as a site with looser habits than the law now expects.

Phone bill casinos and Boku payments

Pay-by-phone deposits, sold under names such as Boku, add a casino deposit to a monthly mobile bill or take it from prepaid credit. None of the operators in our files lists phone-bill payment for Irish customers. There are two plain reasons to expect few. A bill-pay contract settles the deposit weeks later, which looks a lot like credit, and whether it falls inside section 165 is a question for lawyers rather than for this desk. And a phone bill cannot receive a payout, so a winner needs a second method anyway, with the identity checks that go with it.

Withdrawals: where methods really differ

Deposits are instant on almost every method. Payouts are not. Most cashiers send money back by the route it came in, a rule meant to stop laundering, so the method you choose for the first deposit tends to decide how you are paid. E-wallets are usually quickest once a request is approved; card payouts depend on the card scheme and the bank; vouchers usually cannot be paid at all.

Published times vary by brand. William Hill states Visa Direct about 4 hours; other debit cards 1-3 working days; Pay By Bank immediate to 1 working day for its methods, and MegaRush gives E-wallets same day; cards 1-3 banking days; bank transfer 1-7 banking days. The first withdrawal also waits for identity checks; GRAI licensees work under the Verification of Identity and Age Regulations 2026, while foreign casinos follow their own regulator's rules. Our page on fast withdrawal casinos covers the queue in detail.

Picking a method for control, not just speed

A payment method is also a brake, or the lack of one. A paysafecard voucher spends what is on it and stops. A Revolut card can be set to refuse gambling merchants. Licensed bookmakers must let you set your own deposit limits under section 164. The fastest method is not always the right one for a player who wants a firm ceiling on a month's spend.

Gambling is for adults: every site here is 18+ and checks age before paying out. Set the limit before the first deposit, not after a bad night, and use the tools and Irish support services listed on our safer gambling page.

Readers' questions

Which casino payment method pays out fastest?
E-wallets such as Skrill, Neteller and PayPal are usually quickest once the operator approves the request, because the money moves between two accounts rather than through a card scheme. The operator's own pending period and identity checks matter more than the method.
Can I use a credit card at an online casino in Ireland?
Not with a GRAI-licensed operator: section 165 of the Gambling Regulation Act 2024 has banned credit cards and other credit for gambling since 5 February 2026. Some foreign casinos refuse credit cards in their own terms as well.
Can I deposit at a casino by phone bill?
None of the operators in our files lists phone-bill or Boku deposits for Irish customers. Even where it exists, a phone bill cannot receive winnings, so another method is needed to cash out.
Do I pay tax on casino winnings paid to my bank?
Players in Ireland do not pay tax on betting or lottery winnings; betting duty is paid by the bookmaker. Our gambling tax guide explains the detail.
