Free Bets in Ireland and a Free Bet Calculator

A free bet is a stake you do not get back. Here is how to value one, which licensed bookies offer them, and why "no deposit" deals are rarer than the adverts imply.

18+ only. Gambling can become a problem. Set a limit before you start. Help and support

Free bets

A free bet calculator does one thing a normal bet calculator does not: it knocks the stake off the return, because a free bet stake is never paid back. A EUR 10 free bet at 4/1 returns EUR 40, not EUR 50. That single rule decides what a sign-up offer is worth.

Free bet offers from licensed bookies

The firms below hold GRAI remote betting licences. The card shows a welcome offer only where the desk confirmed it on the operator's own pages in euro terms; where none appears, we would rather print nothing than a stale number.

Offers change week to week, and Irish versions often differ from the sterling deals quoted on British sites. Check the euro terms on the operator's own page before you register; app store listings, for instance, sometimes quote only the sterling offer.

How the free bet calculator works

The arithmetic is short. Multiply the free bet stake by the fractional odds and that is your return; nothing is added for the stake. Compare that with a cash bet, where stake plus winnings come back.

Price EUR 10 cash bet returns EUR 10 free bet returns Share of cash return kept
1/2 EUR 15.00 EUR 5.00 a third
Evens EUR 20.00 EUR 10.00 half
4/1 EUR 50.00 EUR 40.00 four-fifths
9/1 EUR 100.00 EUR 90.00 nine-tenths

The lesson in the last column: the shorter the price, the more of the free bet the missing stake eats. Spend a free bet on a 1/2 favourite and two-thirds of the cash-equivalent return vanishes. That is not a reason to back 33/1 shots blind, only a reason to know what you are giving up.

The calculator below handles fractional and each-way returns. For a free bet, take the return it shows and subtract the stake; the bet calculator guide walks through doubles, trebles and each-way sums as well.

Reading sign-up offer terms

Most "bet 10, get 50" style welcome offers share a structure: a qualifying cash bet at minimum odds, then free bet tokens credited after it settles. The detail sits in the terms, and the terms decide value.

  • Minimum odds on the qualifier. A floor of evens or thereabouts is common. Below it, the qualifying bet does not count.
  • Token splits. EUR 30 of free bets may arrive as several smaller tokens, each restricted to a sport or a bet type.
  • Expiry. Tokens usually lapse after a set number of days. Note the date.
  • Stake not returned. Standard everywhere; see the table above.
  • Payment method exclusions. Some offers exclude deposits made through certain e-wallets.
  • One per household. Shared addresses, devices and payment cards can void a second claim.

Promo codes, where an offer needs one, are listed in our brand reviews and on the promo codes page once confirmed. A code copied from a forum post may have expired or belong to the British site.

No deposit free bets in Ireland

Searches for "free bets no deposit Ireland" run well ahead of supply. Licensed bookies rarely give a cash-free stake to a new customer, because identity and age checks must be done before any bet and the free bet still costs them money. When a no-deposit offer does appear, it is usually small, tied to one market and capped on winnings. An unlicensed site promising a large no-deposit bonus is a reason to close the tab, not to open an account.

Seasonal offers: Cheltenham, the Grand National, the World Cup

Offers cluster around the big weeks. Before the Cheltenham Festival in March the racing books trade extra places, money-back specials and free bets for existing customers; the Grand National in April brings the same, with extra places the most useful of them. World Cup and Euros offers favour accumulators and bet builders. Treat each one as a priced product: work out what the concession is worth on the bet you were going to place anyway, and ignore the ones that push you into bets you would not otherwise make.

Free betting tips are not free bets

The two get mixed up in searches. A tip is an opinion; a free bet is a token with a cash value. The desk publishes daily previews on its tips pages, never with claims of certainty, and no tip turns a poor price into a good one.

What the 2024 Act says about inducements

The Gambling Regulation Act 2024 treats free bets and bonuses as inducements. Section 157 bars licensees from targeting them at an individual or a specific group, and lets the Minister restrict or ban offers to the general public by regulation. As of October 2026 no such regulations have been reported and the commencement of that section has not been confirmed, so offers continue for now. If the regulations arrive, welcome offers as they stand today may not survive them.

All offers here are 18+ only, and none of them is a reason to bet more than you planned. Deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion are explained on our safer gambling page.

Readers' questions

How do I calculate a free bet return?
Multiply the free bet stake by the fractional odds. A EUR 5 free bet at 6/1 returns EUR 30, because the stake is not paid back.
Are free bet winnings paid in cash?
Usually yes: the winnings from a settled free bet land as withdrawable cash, subject to the operator terms. Check whether any wagering applies first.
What odds are best for a free bet?
Longer prices keep more of the free bet value, because the lost stake matters less. At 9/1 you keep nine-tenths of a cash return; at evens, half.
Can I get free bets with no deposit in Ireland?
Occasionally, but they are rare from licensed bookies and usually small. Large no-deposit promises usually come from sites without a GRAI licence.
